Can I Renew My Registration If I Failed The Smog Test?

Question
Hello. I am in need of help. My registration renewal is due but my car failed the smog check. I don't know when I'll be able to afford getting the repairs made. What can I do in the mean time. If I don't renew by the end of this month I'm going to get fined. Is there any way to get this done either without the smog check or before I can pass a smog check? Thanks.

Answer
NeedTags can accept your registration renewal payment online and post fees with the DMV so you don't accrue penalties. If your vehicle's registration has already expired, that's ok. We can still accept your renewal payment. It'll be a little higher because of DMV late fees, but we'll be able to post the fees and stop additional penalties from adding up.

Most importantly, you do not need to go to the DMV to do it. You can pay your renewal fees online, though NeedTags. Paying your renewal fees without a smog check is not going to get your registration completed, but it will stop the DMV from adding late fees and fines. The best thing to do if you suspect your vehicle is going to have a smog problem is to pay the registration renewal fees right away. If you don't pass the smog check in time, at least you won't be charged late fees... DMV late fees add up really fast.
