My Car is in Washington But I Need to Smog and Renew the Tags in CA

Question
Hello. I am on work assignment in Washington and my car is with me while I still have primary residence in California and my car is registered there and I plan to come back at some point. My current California registration renewal requires smog check. As I understand from your website to expedite things I can submit REG 5103 form to you and you will mail me registration tags to my address in Washington same business day, but for extra fee and with special arrangements. Can you please tell me what the procedure is to do this through you? Your website also mentions that REG 5103 can be submitted by email. Thank you.

Answer
This is true. We can renew your vehicle's registration without a smog check and mail you your new registration card and sticker to your Washington address.

We make the process simple. Just email us your license plate number and REG 5103 before you use our online DMV registration renewal system, and we'll make sure to process your order with a smog check exemption. You can print out, complete, then scan the REG 5103 as a PDF or if you don't have access to a scanner, simply complete the REG 5103 online, sign it electronically, and then save it as a PDF.

Next, visit our online registration renewal page and submit your renewal order. Enter your Washington address when you're asked where you'd like shipping to. Once we receive your order, we'll process it along with your REG 5103. This will allow you to bypass your vehicle's smog check requirement until you return to California.

Please contact us for current out of state smog check exemption service rates. We will provide you an email address to upload your REG 5103 along with our response.
